NWI Precision is expanding its advanced manufacturing capabilities with the installation of a new automated machining line built around a Mazak Integrex i-250HSTN. The project includes construction of a new machine foundation to support what will become a highly automated production cell dedicated to nuclear components.
The scope of the project is to implement a fully automated machining process for two critical parts supporting NWI Precision’s nuclear business. With a production requirement of 1,600 components over a six-month period, automation was identified as the most effective solution to meet schedule, quality, and efficiency demands.
Mazak Corporation and CNC Machine Services were selected as application providers for a complete turnkey solution. The system includes:
- Twin spindle technology to combine two operations into a single setup
- A 74-position automatic tool changer with sister tooling capability
- Fully developed lights-out machining programs for both components
- Integrated Renishaw probing for in-process and final dimensional verification
- A Mazak Ex Loader collaborative robot (cobot) for automated loading and unloading onto custom pallets
This automation cell is designed to enhance throughput, maintain strict dimensional control, and reduce manual intervention while meeting the rigorous standards of the nuclear industry.

By integrating automation, in-process verification, and multi-operation machining into a single streamlined system, the company continues to strengthen its ability to deliver high-quality components for safety-critical applications.
